Mama Farm, NY

Mama Farm is a farm that uses regenerative agriculture to grow food from heirloom seeds and heritage breeds. The farm occupies 28-acres in Brookhaven, New York, and there are beautiful woodlands, an animal sanctuary, and a vegetable farm. It is overseen by Elettra Wiedemann, and was founded in 2013 by actress, Isabella Rossellini.

Mama B&B is located on Mama Farm in Brookhaven on Long Island (Suffolk County), about 60 miles east of Manhattan.  There are 3 separate rooms with private bathrooms, accommodating 8-9 adults.

About Chef Anita Lo

Lo appeared on the first season of Top Chef Masters and finished fourth out of 24 chefs. Her first cookbook, Cooking Without Borders, which highlights her passion for bringing multicultural flavors to her American kitchen. In 2014, The New York Times, Chef Lo received prestigious three stars for her restaurant, Annisa. 
 
In 2015, Chef Lo was the first female guest chef to cook for a State Dinner at the White House, under the Obama administration. She prepared a 4-course meal for the visiting Chinese president. After 17 years and holding a Michelin star for nine consecutive years, Lo closed Annisa to pursue her next adventure. Her second book, Solo: Easy Sophisticated Recipes For a Party of One, was published in 2018.

Friday, October 14
Arrive at Mama B&B and make yourself at home. Meet Chef Lo and your fellow travelers.

7:30 PM Tonight's dinner will be a sea-food boil prepared by a local chef. Wines are from Wolffer Wines in Sagaponack. (D)
Saturday, Oct. 15
Breakfast at the B&B.
10:00 AM This morning we'll join Roger, a member of the Long Island Mycological Club for a 3 hour foraging adventure.
1:00 PM Back at the farm, a lunch of dosas, using vegetables from Mama Farm.
3:00 PM Tour of the vegetable garden with head farmer, Patty Gentry. Collect ingredients for this afternoon's cooking class.
4:00 PM Hands-on cooking class with Chef Lo preparing a 4 course meal.
7:00 Dinner is served with wines from Channing Daughters Winery, Bridgehampton.

Sunday, Oct. 16
Breakfast at the B&B.
10:00 AM Meet at the van to transfer to the North Fork. Our first stop is at Widow's Hole Oysters. Mike and his wife, Isabel, run an underwater oyster farm where we'll learn how the oysters are cultivated and sample the crop. Continue to Southold General, a new venture by Chef François Payard where we'll have a delicious lunch. Back at the farm, we'll serve a light dinner. (B, L, D)

End of tour.
