Day of the Dead

Our Hacienda Es Su Hacienda

Savor your 7 day/6 night culinary adventure in an elegant, restored 17th century  hacienda, with just 7 bedrooms. It’s situated on 250 acres of gardens and natural habitat with walking trails surrounding a swimming pool, spa, salon and gym pavilion.

Shaped by traditional hacienda architecture, The Casa Principal includes expansive terraces, elegant living rooms and a library with a well-stocked bar. Soak in the sound of pouring waterfalls and bird songs, while lounging on outdoor terraces. The beautiful bedrooms include luxurious baths, high ceilings and ceramic tile floors. An attentive staff will take care of your every need.

Day 1
Arrival and transfer to Hacienda Petac. You will be greeted at the airport by our driver and guide. The drive from the Merida Airport to the Hacienda is a comfortable half hour. Depending on the hour of arrival, guests will either be greeted with iced Jamaica tea and botanas or tea and a light supper. We make the best Margaritas and serve the coldest beers at your request!
Day 2
After a hearty breakfast, we head to Merida. In this beautiful Colonial city we will stop at the Main Square to see scores of traditional Hanal Pixan altars. This time of year is when the Maya people celebrate the return of the souls of their passed family members and friends. The altars are adorned with sweets, candles and flowers. All food for the spirits. After walking through the Main Square and viewing of the Altars, we return to Hacienda Petac for lunch followed by some down time. A mixology class will precede a light supper.
Day 3
After breakfast, head into head to the Teaching Kitchen for a hands-on class making the most important Hanal Pixan food, Mucbil Pollos. While the Pibes are cooking in the underground oven pit, lunch will be served. This afternoon is free to have a swim, a game of pool or ping pong, or just relax in a hamaca. Supper will be your homemade baked Mucbil Pollos!
Day 4
Today we will be cooking Yucatecan fast food. Panuchos! Learn all the steps to this delicious open-faced stuffed tortilla treat and have lots of tortilla-making practice. This evening the van will take us back to Merida, to the Main Square where we will watch the special Folkloric dancers perform the Dance of the Souls. The Vaqueria de las Animas is truly a visual delight. We will have reserved seating.
Day 5
After breakfast, an excursion to visit Uxmal, considered one of the most important archaeological sites of Maya culture. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterwards, bring your bathing suits and take a dip in the Santa Barbara Cenote. There should be time for a rest or spa treatment before evening Mixology class at 7:00 p.m. Supper to follow.
Day 6
Today you will be cooking with Chef Anita Lo. She will guide us through a special day of cooking. Tonight, before supper, a serenade during cocktail hour by the incomparable troubadours, Los Tres Yucatecos.
Day 7
Today is departure day and depending on your flight time we will offer coffee, banana bread, hard-boiled egg and fruit or a light sit-down breakfast.

Hacienda Petac staff follows all government Covid precautions. Depending on travel regulations for returning to the United States, we can organize preflight testing. This will be updated over the next months.
