Highlights

Tour de Forks presents a 6 day/5 night independent package to discover Umbria, the so-called “Green Heart of Italy”, a region not only covered with lush green hills but also ancient towns with cobblestone streets, stunning cathedrals and old fortresses, a region of delicious, hearty food and great wines. The starting point of the tour is Orvieto, whose cathedral is a gothic masterpiece. Next is Todi, followed by St. Francis in Assisi, and then to Perugia with its Etruscan walls, and 16th century palaces.

You will have the opportunity to sample wines and/or local typical products at wineries, bakeries, pastry shops, farms, fresh produce markets and more, such as: the famous Sagrantino wine; the wine and local fare of the Palazzo del Gusto, the typical traditional cakes and pastries of Orvieto. During this trip, the participants will not only discover local food and wine but also the most interesting monuments, works of art, churches and natural landscapes of the region.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Rome and your 4* hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 2
After breakfast, depart to Orvieto and its splendid views from the rock. City Tour with local guide, including the magnificent Gothic Cathedral and the Orvieto Underground – a series of 440 caves used for millennia by locals for various purposes, including as WWII bomb shelters, refrigerators, wells and, during many Roman or barbarian siege, as dovecotes to trap the usual one-course dinner: pigeon (still seen on local restaurant menus as palombo). Enjoy a wine tasting at Palazzo del Gusto followed by lunch in local restaurant. Continue to the hill top medieval town of Todi for a city tour with a local guide. Continue to your 4*hotel in Perugia and overnight.
Day 3
Breakfast at the hotel. This morning you'll experience a hands-on cooking class in Umbria’s traditional cuisine. Lunch with local wine follows. In the afternoon a walking tour of Perugia with a local guide.
Day 4
Breakfast in hotel and morning at leisure. Lunch in local restaurant in Perugia. In the afternoon departure to Montefalco, another splendid town situated on top of a hill, offering spectacular views over the hills. City tour with local guide and a tour/wine tasting at Paolo Bea. Continue to the ancient olive groves - 3,000 plants - belonging to the Romanelli family, to discover the many plant varieties and the extra virgin olive oil production techniques, along with a tasting. Departure for Bevagna and dinner in local restaurant. Overnight in Perugia.
Day 5
Breakfast in hotel and departure for Assisi, city tour with local guide including the Basilica of St Francis. Lunch in local restaurant. In the afternoon visit of Ceramiche Sambuco in Deruta. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 6
Breakfast at your hotel. End of services.
